How Long Should Your HVAC System Last in NC?

With good maintenance, most systems last 15–20 years. Here's what affects that — and how to get the most out of yours.

One of the most common questions we hear is, "How long should my system last?" In North Carolina, a well-maintained heating and cooling system typically lasts about 15 to 20 years.

That range depends on a few things: how well the system was sized and installed, how hard it has to work in our climate, and — most importantly — how consistently it's maintained. A neglected system might fail in 10 years, while a well-cared-for one can comfortably exceed 20.

Maintenance is the single biggest factor you can control. Regular tune-ups keep components clean, catch small problems early, and keep the system running efficiently. That's exactly what our Energy Savings Agreement is built to do, with visits in the spring and fall.

If your system is approaching the 15-year mark or you're facing a major repair, it may be worth comparing the cost of repair against a more efficient replacement — and we offer free estimates on complete system replacements to help you decide.
